Now, though, researchers have apparently\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-24429621\" target=\"_blank\">tipped that balance<\/a>, making fusion a real possibility<\/p>\n<p data-textannotation-id=\"dd3bf2a2ff7855ba574b1cc671203fe7\">&#8230;.Usually, they have to dump more power in using the lasers than they manage to create from the fusion reaction&#8230;<\/p>\n<p data-textannotation-id=\"837e255a5404111014c5846ab7086ac9\">&#8230;the &#8220;amount of energy released through the fusion reaction exceeded the amount of energy being absorbed by the fuel&#8221;. If it&#8217;s true, it&#8217;s the first time any fusion experiment has managed such a feat&#8230;<\/p>\n<p data-textannotation-id=\"a28a15b4c6287f6d7ff6bd6ab6fcc204\">&#8230;What researchers really want to achieve is ignition: the point at which the\u00a0nuclear fusion reaction generates as much energy as the lasers supply&#8230;<\/p>\n<p data-textannotation-id=\"a28a15b4c6287f6d7ff6bd6ab6fcc204\">&#8230;inefficiencies\u00a0in the fusion system which mean that not all the energy supplied through the laser is delivered to the fuel.<\/p>\n<p data-textannotation-id=\"93ed019be7398e690980c72d334599d2\">&#8230;A little more work, and fusion could soon become a real thing.
