TWO OF THE BIGGEST GUN CONTROL MYTHS DEBUNKED IN GLENN BECK’S NEW BOOK ‘CONTROL’

Gun control is not about safety, common sense or saving American lives — it’s about “control.”

1. More Guns Mean More Crime.  In reality, an extensive 2004 report by the National Academy of Science was not able to identify a single gun control regulation that actually reduces violent crime, suicides or accidents, Beck said. The NAS panel reviewed 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publication and some of its own empirical work on firearms. One of the main pillars of the gun control argument is the claim that more gun laws will make Americans safer. Because the facts do not support such a claim, one would think the scales would be tipped in favor of gun rights.A University of Pennsylvania study also determined that the 1994 “assault weapons” ban did little to reduce violence while in effect.

2. Strict Gun Control Works in Other Countries. Anti-gun advocates like CNN’s Piers Morgan routinely claim strict gun control has been very effective in other countries like Great Britain and Japan, however, the numbers tell a slightly different story. Beck pointed out that within a decade after England practically banned all firearms in 1997, crime with handguns had doubled, armed street gangs caused British police to start carry guns and the country still experienced a mass shooting. Additionally, the homicide rate rose dramatically for seven years after the ban — from 1.1 per 100,000 to 1.8 per 100,000.Australia also enacted strict restrictions on firearms ownership following a mass shooting in 1996. The change in gun violence was so small that it was “statically irrelevant,” Beck said.On the other hand, Switzerland has the third highest gun ownership rate in the world and a murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000. The country’s murder rate is well below Australia, the U.K. and Canada while its gun laws are less strict.

“More gun control doesn’t mean less crime,” …

…  Of course the notion of the Melting Pot making Americans of those from all nations – one from many – was discarded by the American Left in favor of Diversity. …

…  and in American academia e pluribus unum was replaced by hymns to Diversity. …

… Of course American academia no longer studies history, and thus can prove anything it likes by making up historical theories that replace what actually happened without much fear of contradiction. …

Col 1:28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.

It is not the imparting of spiritual disciplines as much as it is acquainting another with a Person you love.

We can mistake Christian activity with becoming like Christ. Christian activity and Christlikeness are not the same things. We must not assume that because our friend attends church and reads her Bible, she is growing as a Christian.

the danger is assuming that your religious activity is the relationship.

The Center of the Earth Is 1,000°C Hotter Than We Thought

A new series of measurements have revealed that the Earth’s core is actually 1,000°C hotter than we previously thought—meaning the center of our planet is actually as hot as the surface of the Sun.We’ve long known that the very core of the planet—despite being exceedingly hot—is made of solid, crystalline iron because of the immense pressures it experiences. But a new series of experiments suggests that the crystal structure actually forms at far higher temperatures than previously predicted.Tests in the early 90s suggested that the core’s temperature should be approximately 5,000°C. But now, a team of scientists have used X-rays to probe samples of iron, held at extremely high temperatures, to better understand how the unique crystal structure of the core forms. The pressures were created using something called a diamond anvil cell, which holds a sample between two machined synthetic diamonds. By applying immense pressure and heating the sample with lasers, the team were able to bombard the iron with X-rays to see how its crystal structure changes as it transitions from liquid to solid.Their results, published in Science, suggest that the core temperature of the Earth is likely 6,000°C. Fortunately, that result also agrees with computational simulations of what should happen at the core. It’s not just an academic success, either—while the core temperature can’t be measured directly, knowing its value is important for geophysicists who attempt to understand and predict changes in earthquakes and the planet’s magnetic field. Phl 4:11  Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.

… Contentment frees you to enjoy every good thing God has given you. Contentment demonstrates your belief that God loves you and has your best interest in mind. Discontent stems from the sin of ingratitude and a lack of faith that God loves you enough to provide for all that you need. …

GOP LAWMAKERS HOPE TO COMBAT AMMUNITION STOCKPILING BY GOV’T AGENCIES WITH AMMO ACT

Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports.

The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or “AMMO” Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo.

“DHS, for instance, has placed two-years worth of ammunition, or nearly 247 million rounds, in its inventory,” the Free Beacon notes.

In a statement provided to the Washington Free Beacon, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), said federal agencies must provide more “transparency and accountability” in regards to its “stockpiles of ammunition.”

“President Obama has been adamant about curbing law-abiding Americans’ access and opportunities to exercise their Second Amendment rights…One way the Obama administration is able to do this is by limiting what’s available in the market with federal agencies purchasing unnecessary stockpiles of ammunition,” the statement adds.

More from the Free Beacon:

[T]he legislation would prevent all government agencies except for the Defense Department from purchasing and storing what lawmakers say is an excess amount of ammunition.

The bill’s reach would include DHS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), two agencies that have found themselves at the center of the ammo controversy.

“As the public learned in a House committee hearing this week, the Department of Homeland Security has two years worth of ammo on hand and allots nearly 1,000 more rounds of ammunition for DHS officers than is used on average by our Army officers,” Inhofe said. “The AMMO Act of 2013 will enforce transparency and accountability of federal agencies’ ammunition supply while also protecting law-abiding citizens access to these resources.”

An agency covered by the legislation would not be permitted to purchase or store more ammunition than that agency retained on average between 2001 and 2009, according to an advance copy of the legislation provided to the Free Beacon.

Additionally, the AMMO Act would encourage the Government Accountability Office to audit federal agencies’ ammo purchases.

“The Comptroller General of the United States shall submit to Congress a report regarding the purchasing of ammunition by agencies, which shall include an assessment of the effect of the purchasing of ammunition by agencies on the supply of ammunition available to the public,” the bill reads, according to a copy reviewed by the Free Beacon.

There have been more concerns over reports of DHS’s plan to purchase another 750 million rounds of ammunition over the next five years, despite having a two-year stockpile saved up. Meanwhile, gun shops across the country are reporting ammunition shortages.
